The first day of the Amsterdam Urban Innovation Week is themed Power to the People. We are moving away from the traditional division into market, state and society. In Amsterdam, as elsewhere in the world, we see a rapidly growing movement of citizens willing to roll up their sleeves in order to bring change to their living environments and to the ways we live and work. This so-called 'bottom-up movement' can be seen as an answer to the economic crisis, to the retreat of the state from the public domain and to climate change.
